Who we are
The Women Dem Foundation is a Bahamian grant-making initiative based in Nassau, The Bahamas. This policy explains how we handle the personal information of people who visit this site and apply for our grants and scholarships.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to consider an application:
- Account details you provide to sign in, such as your name and email address.
- Your application answers, which may include business information, academic information, personal statements, and a description of your financial need.
- Documents you upload, such as a business plan, references, an academic transcript, an acceptance or enrolment letter, proof of Family Island residency, or identification where a grant requires it.
- For applicants aged 15 to 18, a record of signed parental or guardian consent.
- Information gathered during due diligence, such as verification of identity, enrolment, business status, and references, before any funds are disbursed.
Why we use it
We use your information to assess your eligibility, score your application, conduct due diligence, communicate with you about your application, and, for recipients, disburse and account for the award. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell it.
Who can see it
Applications are reviewed by the independent Grants Committee under confidentiality. No Board member scores applications, and any reviewer with a family or personal connection to an applicant must declare it and recuse themselves. A small number of Foundation administrators, and the trusted service providers who host this site, send our email, and store uploaded files on our behalf, may access information only as needed to operate the programme. We share information outside the Foundation only where it is necessary to verify your application, with your consent, or where the law requires it.
Applicants who are minors
The Junior Start Grant is open to applicants aged 15 to 18. We collect and process their information only with signed parental or guardian consent, and award funds are disbursed with a parent or guardian co-signature.
How we protect it
Your information is held on secure, access-controlled systems, and uploaded documents are stored in access-controlled file storage. We limit access to the people and providers who need it to run the grant programme.
How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as necessary for the grant cycle, for due diligence, and to meet our audit and public reporting obligations. After that, it is deleted or anonymised.
Cookies
This site uses only the essential cookies needed to keep you signed in and to keep the application process secure. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Your choices
You may save a draft application and withdraw it at any time before it is submitted. You may also ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal information by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the programme grows. When we do, we will revise the date shown below.
